A few months ago, we got to spend an amazing day with students, community organizations, volunteers, and supporters at our 2026 Youth Volunteer Fair, hosted in partnership with Writer’s Exchange.
From the moment things kicked off, the energy in the room was unreal. Students were walking from table to table, chatting with organizations, asking great questions, and honestly just really diving into what volunteering could look like for them. For a lot of people, it was their first time realizing just how many different ways there are to get involved across Metro Vancouver.
With over 100 attendees and 20 local organizations, the space felt full in the best way. So many groups showed up ready to share what they do, and so many students showed up ready to listen, learn, and explore what might be the right fit for them.
Throughout the day, we saw everything from environmental projects to food security, seniors programs, youth support, and so much more. It was one of those events where you could literally see people discovering what they care about in real time.
A quick “hi, what do you do?” would turn into full on conversations about volunteering, shared interests, and what getting involved could look like. Those moments are what stick with us. They’re a good reminder that volunteering is really about connection just as much as it is about giving time.
At Captain Scott Legacy Society, we’re big believers that everyone should have a simple, welcoming way to get started with volunteering. That is exactly what this fair was all about, creating a space where young people could explore without pressure and just see what feels right for them.
We’re so grateful to Writer’s Exchange, all the organizations who joined us, and every single person who came through the doors that day. The curiosity, kindness, and openness we saw throughout the event left us feeling really hopeful about what the next generation of volunteers is going to look like.
Thanks for being part of it. We can’t wait to see where these new volunteer journeys go next.
