Community in Action: Our Third Volunteer Neighbourhood Cleanup with the Chinese Community Policing Centre

Third time's a charm! On Saturday, March 2, 2024, Captain Scott Legacy Society embarked on another volunteer-run neighbourhood cleanup with the Chinese Community Policing Centre. We explored all over Chinatown, including the local skate park and Andy Livingstone Park.

With each cleanup, our volunteers grow more familiar with the neighbourhood's litter hotspots. Many volunteers who take transit, also took notes during their walk from their bus and skytrain stops - mapping out where they found garbage along the way.

Here's a glimpse into our latest cleanup stats:

  • Total Cleanup Time: 2 hours

  • Number of Volunteers: 11

  • Bags of Garbage Collected: 8

  • Notable Finds: An increase in batteries, lighters, and soiled blankets

Despite other neighbourhood cleanup initiatives by other groups, there was a lot more garbage than expected. Our dedicated volunteers took on the challenge and put in a lot of work! At one point, we realized we didn’t take enough garbage bags with us and needed to coordinate meeting up with team members after we split up to collect garbage.

Times like these serve as a powerful reminder of how crucial it is to stay actively involved in our community and take proactive steps to maintain the cleanliness of our neighbourhoods. As we reflect on our third cleanup, we're grateful for the unwavering support of our volunteers and partners, and we look forward to continuing our mission of creating a cleaner, safer community.
